Overview

I wrote two original episodes set within the world of Bluey, using character research and episode analysis to create stories that feel consistent with the show’s established world.

Rather than focusing on writing as the end goal, I focused on understanding how the characters think, behave and interact, and using that understanding to shape the story.

Role: Writer

I wrote the two screenplays as well as provided notes on other writers’ Bluey spec scripts.

Process & Development

01 — Studying the Show

I watched episodes across multiple seasons, analyzing:

– Pacing and episode structure
– The types of stories told

– Demographic & audience appeal
– Humour and emotional beats, etc.

02 — Developing the Concepts

I developed several episode ideas inspired by my own childhood experiences and translated them into the Bluey world.

03 — Character Research

I researched all the relevant characters on the official Bluey website, including family members, friends and main characters.

I used this to determine which characters would naturally fit each story and adjusted the concepts accordingly.

I then watched episodes specifically featuring the characters I would be using, including Muffin, Socks, Trixie, Stripe and Nana.

I focused on their:

  • Mannerisms
  • Speech patterns
  • Relationships
  • Reactions
  • Physical behaviour

This helped inform the dialogue and actions in the final scripts.
