Storybook

Motion Graphic Video

Overview

This project explores a short narrative journey through a fantasy book, where each transition reveals a new landscape, character, and atmosphere before ultimately returning to reality.

The animation is designed to capture the experience of becoming immersed in a story and travelling through different fantasy worlds while reading.

Role: Director and Motion Designer

This was an independent project. I was responsible for concept development, visual direction, asset preparation, animation, editing, and final compositing.

Process & Development

Concept Development

The piece is structured around the experience of reading a fantasy book. It begins in reality, moves into the imagined world within, and ends by returning to the physical world as the book closes.

Each environment represents a different part of fantasy while still feeling connected within one story universe.

Visual Planning & Worldbuilding

I planned each scene so transitions felt purposeful and connected. Environments link visually and thematically, such as moving from mermaids underwater to pirates above the sea, or from a distant dragon in the sky to the dragon flying over the next scene. The goal was to create a natural flow that mirrors the feeling of reading.

Asset Preparation & Animation
All visual assets were rebuilt in Illustrator from reference images so they could be animated and layered effectively. This also allowed flexibility in colour, scaling, separating elements, and creating smooth transitions between environments. In addition, subtle textures were added to give scenes more depth.
